On
Sunday, April 3, 2011, Clergy & Parishioners of St. Martin of Tours
celebrated a traditional Passover meal, known as a Seder, with
members of the Jewish faith. It is a family celebration,
in which parents pass on to their children the knowledge of
their heritage; and yet, it is more than that. It is a
memorial ritual which recalls the past in such a way as to make
it present.
The
order of the ritual, in Hebrew, called SEDER, calls Jewish
families to gather together on this special night, century after
century, to remember the events of the first Passover. As
they taste the symbolic foods, they re-live the experience of
these events. They enter into the sufferings of their
forefathers who were slaves in Egypt; and they experience again
God's saving action.
